Many European institutions and other European Cooperation programmes have responded to the COVID-19 crisis.
On this page you will find a short description of selected initiatives and the links to the respective website, documentation and databases.
European Open Data Portal
The dataset contains the latest available public data on COVID-19 including a daily situation update, the epidemiological curve and the global geographical distribution (EU/EEA and the UK, worldwide).
COVID-19 Data Portal
An unprecedented number of scientific efforts are taking place worldwide in order to help combat the new coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19). One of the biggest challenges in this fast-moving situation is to share data and findings in a coordinated way, in order to understand the disease and to develop treatments and vaccines.
To address this challenge, EMBL-EBI has set up the COVID-19 Data Portal, which will bring together relevant datasets submitted to EMBL-EBI and other major centres for biomedical data. The aim is to facilitate data sharing and analysis, and to accelerate coronavirus research.
Database of National Containment Measures
Many different measures and different combinations of measures have been implemented in EU Member States and countries worldwide. It is a priority task in the fight against COVID-19 to learn about the benefits of different measures, and crucial to design a coordinated exit strategy for the European Union.
For this scope, a set of main containment measures has been identified (such as school closure, restriction of national and international movements etc.). The result is a dynamic database updated on a daily basis per Member State carried out by JRC.
Impacts on air pollution
Data from EEA member countries show how concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) — a pollutant mainly emitted by road transport — have decreased in many European cities where lockdown measures have been implemented.
COVID-19 Exchange platform
The Committee of the Regions, as the interface and reference point between the European Union and its local and regional governments, endorsed a plan to assist, inform, engage and represent regions and cities across Europe.
Projects tackling COVID-19
Every single action matters in the fight against the impact of COVID-19, and Interreg is an active player in the game.
Today, there are already 98 projects tagged with COVID-19 related measures in the project database keep.eu, and more keep being tagged. These projects can be easily found by a simple text search term 'covid', which can also be combined with any other search criteria (e.g. theme or location) if needed.
Examples of how Interreg, ENI and IPA projects have responded to the COVID-19 emergency collected by INTERACT's Inclusive Growth Network.
COVID19 – Coronavirus Response Investment Initiative Plus (CRII+)
The European Commission proposed a new set of measures to mobilise support against COVID19 – Coronavirus Response Investment Initiative Plus (CRII+). The new package complements an earlier initiative by introducing extraordinary flexibility to allow that all non-utilised support from the European Structural and Investment Funds can be mobilised to the fullest.
