Valorization of Industrial Waste Streams for Battery Grade Silicon

We are BATTSi

Our project brings together researchers and companies across Finland, Iceland, Sweden, and Ireland to refine industrial by-products, like spent grain from breweries and distilleries, grain husks from spirit production and agrifood industry, geo-brine from energy production, into the silicon that battery manufacturers need. By turning waste into high-value material, we create new business opportunities, strengthen local economies, cut down on mining and landfill, and build a cleaner, more resource-efficient future.
