On 20 November 2025, the Bio4Energy Researchers’ Meeting was held at Umeå University, bringing together around 75 participants from Umeå University, Luleå University of Technology, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, Umeå Energi (an energy company from Västerbotten), and BioFuel Region (an NGO with focus on sustainable transportation and representing the four northernmost Swedish provinces, i.e., Västerbotten, Norrbotten, Västernorrland, and Jämtland). Bio4Energy (www.bio4energy.se) is a Swedish Strategic Research Environment, which is a part of the Swedish Government's commitment to high-quality research in areas of strategic importance. The focus area of Bio4Energy is valorization of biomass and waste to bio-based fuels, chemicals, and materials.

The one-day event focused on one of Bio4Energy’s seven research platforms: Environment and Nutrient Recycling. The program featured a diverse range of presentations, from tackling “forever chemicals” to developing sustainable plant fertilizers. Both the scientific talks by researchers—senior and early-career alike—and the inspiring contributions from external speakers representing Umeå Energi and BioFuel Region sparked lively discussions and encouraged new ideas and collaborations across disciplines.

Young researchers were also in the spotlight through a dedicated poster pitch session for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. We are happy to congratulate Chaojun Tang, whose presentation on Bio-2-Print earned her the first prize in the competition. The poster session featured many excellent contributions, making the contest highly competitive.
