Varandi Heimur (Sustainable world)

A major energy fair, Varandi Heimur (Sustainable world), was held 25–26 October 2024 in the 1300 m² sports and meeting hall at Giljanesi, Sandavágur 360, Faroe Islands.

The fair included a two-day conference and exhibition stands with participation of most companies and institutions relevant in the energy transition of the Faroe Islands.

The conference was opened by the mayor of Vága Municipality. During the two days, several speakers from relevant companies and institutions gave their views on the energy transition in the Faroe Islands. Guest speaker Sebastian H. Mernild, professor in Climate Change at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), presented an overview of the world’s climate change situation.

The Faroese Environment Agency (FEA) was heavily involved in organizing the event and had several speakers at the conference. On Saturday 26/10-2024 at 13:00, Bjarti Thomsen presented “Kunnu øll hús hava sólorkuverk” (Can all houses have solar power plants). The presentation (in Faroese) is available here:

FEA also hosted a large exhibition stand featuring the Hybes poster as a central exhibit, creating opportunities to discuss energy issues and to present the Hybes project.
