Energy efficiency in care homes

Saving energy in care houses

Two public elderly homes in Västernorrland improved their energy efficiency as a result of newly implemented ideas and practices learned from other partners. SMART meters were installed at Ärebo elderly home to improve users’ awareness of energy consumption. Together with other changes, such as indoor and outdoor LED lightning, the institution reduced its energy consumption by 8%. Similarly, Vallänge public care home upgraded the roof insulation and installed a heat pump system, which reduced the energy use by approximately 50%. The institutions continued to improve their energy efficiency after the project ended.

Through the SECURE project, we have been given the opportunity to go into depth with a building in a way that would not otherwise be possible. It has given us new insights, both about the building itself and about how we as property owners can cooperate with the activities that are in our properties. We will take this with us in our other property stock.
