Energy savings

Sharing ideas how to save energy in public buildings

Inspired by their peers from Northern Ireland, public buildings in Letterkenny, Leitrim, Carndonagh, Donegal Town, Milford, and Dungloe reduced their energy consumption by installing intelligent heating control system, thermal insulation jackets, and using energy efficient hand driers among others. Energy Awareness Days promoted and deepened people’s understanding of energy efficiency and gave practical tips on how to save energy at home and at work. Cooperation during the project led Donegal County and Derry City & Strabane District County in Northern Ireland to develop the first ever cross-border Renewable Energy Strategy in Ireland.

Leitrim County Council

Leitrim County Council has set up a target to be an example of a renewable energy and energy efficiency. The SECURE project offered us an opportunity to get an expertise across the variety of areas, to learn from other regions and also share a lot of information on projects that we have done already. We see it as an ideal opportunity to progress our goal of being an example region within Ireland.
