Get to Know Our Horizontal Principles

In our project, we follow the NPA programme’s Horizontal Principles to guide everything we do. These principles help ensure that our work is environmentally responsible, inclusive, and gender balanced — giving equal opportunities for everyone to participate and benefit from the project.

Horizontal Principles in the NPA Programme

In the NPA programme, Horizontal Principles mean the values and approaches that are integrated into every stage of the project — from planning to implementation and evaluation. Their purpose is to ensure that:

  • all project actions are environmentally responsible,

  • the views and needs of people of all genders are taken into consideration, and

  • everyone — regardless of gender, age, nationality, cultural or ethnic background, religion, disability, identity, or sexual orientation — has an equal chance to take part in the project, stay informed about its progress, and benefit from its results.

The three main horizontal principles in the NPA are:

  • Environmental sustainability (Greener NPA)

  • Equal opportunities and non-discrimination (Inclusive NPA)

  • Equality between women and men (Gender Balanced NPA)

You can read more about these principles on the official NPA website.

How we apply the Horizontal Principles in our project

Our project focuses on all three principles through the following concrete actions:

Greener NPA

  1. To use public transportation for travel and travel by land when it is sensible.

  2. To prefer digital materials, and to avoid printing paper unnecessarily.

  3. We consider sustainable and responsible choices in all project activities.

Inclusive NPA

  1. To consider the target group’s interests, skills, learning ability, and attitudes towards digital and technological solutions.

  2. We aim to treat all project participants equitably and inclusively, regardless of age, disability, cultural background, or language.

  3. We consider the needs of the local population in our communication — for example, by producing enough materials in the native language.

Gender Balanced NPA

  1. Project events, activities, and deliverables are designed to include all genders.

  2. We aim for equal gender representation in the target and stakeholder groups.

  3. We create communication materials that reach all genders.
