About the RIAQ Project

RIAQ promotes healthier homes by evaluating indoor air quality and hygrothermal performance before and after retrofits.

Healthier Homes

RIAQ focuses on improving indoor environments by ensuring retrofits lead to healthier and more comfortable homes. The project evaluates indoor air quality and hygrothermal performance before and after retrofits to better understand how housing conditions can support resident well-being.

Science in Action

Through pilot studies in Finland, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland, RIAQ collects evidence on building performance in different climates. The research combines indoor measurements, energy and moisture assessments, and building simulations to capture how retrofits perform in real-world conditions.

Collaboration Across Borders

RIAQ brings together universities, research institutes, public health experts, and SMEs across the Northern Periphery and Arctic. By working closely with stakeholders and organising international and local workshops, the project ensures solutions are practical, scalable, and adapted to regional needs.

From Knowledge to Practice

The project transforms research into actionable guidelines and best practices for policymakers, housing authorities, and SMEs. By sharing knowledge and tools, RIAQ supports sustainable retrofit strategies that can be applied widely, helping to create healthier and more resilient homes.
