Sustainable SMEs in a nutshell

Check out the contents of the work packages in the project in a short introduction. This page will be updated with more details later.

European Union’s sustainability reporting and taxonomy legislation poses challenges to SMEs, who might lack capabilities or resources to meet these requirements. The Sustainable SMEs project aims at supporting SMEs by developing, piloting and sharing solutions and best practices for sustainability reporting. This enhances SMEs’ viability in the market as well as sustainable growth, contributing to a stronger and more sustainable economy.

The first work package of the project focuses on encouraging and engaging SMEs and multi-level stakeholders to sustainability transition. Interviews will be carried out to gain insight into the challenges related to sustainability reporting in SMEs and SME stakeholder organizations, such as business developers, investors, business networks etc. In addition, webinars and workshops will be organized around related topics.

The second work package aims at developing, experimenting and evaluating sustainability reporting solutions. These solutions will be co-created and piloted with SMEs and SME stakeholder organizations. Finally, in the last work package the best solutions found in the project are transferred across the NPA area to multiply the project’s impact. The project will produce webinar recordings and a guidebook available for use to help SMEs in sustainability reporting.

The project aims to equip SMEs with the knowledge and skills needed to meet the reporting requirements of their current and potential customers, as well as to understand the upcoming EU reporting framework for SMEs. The project’s success is measured by the number of SMEs that have started preparing their reports and those that have gained new knowledge or skills through the project’s activities.
