On 20 January 2026, an online workshop hosted by BioFuel Region was organised to strengthen knowledge and practical skills in sustainability reporting through the VSME framework.

Date
11.02.2026

The session, “Get started with sustainability reporting”, focused on sharing experiences, challenges, and good practices among participants. Participants were introduced to updated information on the CSRD following recent EU decisions, and they discussed how SMEs can get started with the VSME reporting modules. Topics included reporting requirements, optional auditor reviews, and how companies can strategically use double materiality assessments even when not mandatory.

The workshop emphasized that sustainability reporting can provide clear competitive advantages, help identify cost savings, and support SMEs that serve customers with extensive reporting demands.
Common challenges highlighted included data reliability, ensuring social sustainability across supply chains, and aligning sustainability work with business strategy. Several attendees also noted the increasing pressure from larger companies requiring sustainability data from their suppliers.

A total of 17 participants from Sweden, Finland and Norway took part, including representatives from SMEs, their customers, regional developers, and reporting experts.
