About Jarmo Reponen & the Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology

Professor Jarmo Reponen is a Professor of Healthcare Information Systems at the Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu, Finland. He holds a medical specialist degree in radiology and a Finnish special competence in healthcare information technology.

His research focuses on the evaluation of health information systems, including their availability, real-world use, and user experience. Over the years, Professor Reponen has contributed extensively to research in e-Health, teleradiology, telemedicine, mobile communication, and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in radiology. More recently, his work has focused on digital health technology assessment, strengthening the evidence base for effective digital healthcare solutions.

The Research Unit of Health Sciences and Technology (HST) is the most multidisciplinary research unit at the University of Oulu. With eleven principal investigators, HST combines expertise across clinical sciences, medical physics, medical engineering, medical informatics, biomarkers and connected health, and health sciences, creating a unique environment for socially impactful research and education at the intersection of health and technology.

  • Assessing digital health solutions for usability, effectiveness, and real-world applicability
  • Supporting evidence-based decision-making for occupational healthcare in rural and remote areas
