ArcticSewlutions Project featured at IAHR Europe Congress on June 9th, 2026

The ArcticSewlutions project will be showcased at the 9th IAHR Europe Congress in Luleå, Sweden, through a dedicated special session SS10: “Sanitation Management in Sparsely Populated Areas in Cold Climate”. The session is convened by Assistant Professor Pekka Rossi from the University of Oulu.

Date
03.06.2026

The special session highlights innovative approaches to wastewater management in Arctic and sub-Arctic communities. The session draws on experiences from the ArcticSewlutions project, which brings together partners from Finland, Sweden, Iceland, and Greenland to develop sustainable and resilient sanitation solutions for northern regions.

The session features five presentations on emerging contaminants and environmental risks, antimicrobial resistance and public health, and treatment technologies and operational solutions for cold climates.

The dedicated session reflects the growing recognition of the need for locally adapted wastewater solutions in cold climates and provides an important platform for sharing research findings and practical experiences with the international water sector community.
