Welcome to a hybrid workshop exploring current advances in battery materials and technologies, with a particular focus on sustainable alternatives to mining and the development of silicon-based solutions for energy storage.

The programme brings together experts from across Europe and beyond to present recent research and practical approaches covering electrolyte development, hydrometallurgical processing, recycling of lithium-ion batteries, life cycle assessment, and the challenges and opportunities in cathode active material production. The session also addresses the transition from research to practice, including perspectives on commercialization and scaling up innovative solutions.

The workshop features contributions from LuleƄ University of Technology, University of Eastern Finland, University of Limerick, Centria University of Applied Sciences, and industry representatives, offering a comprehensive view of the evolving battery value chain.

As part of the programme, the BATTSi project will present its latest progress in advancing the valorisation of silicon-rich industrial side streams into high-purity materials for battery applications. By strengthening collaboration between research organisations and industry across the Northern Periphery and Arctic region, the project supports the development of a more sustainable and resilient battery ecosystem.

The event is open to researchers, industry representatives, and stakeholders interested in sustainable battery technologies and circular economy solutions.
