CIRCULATOUR
Circular, low-waste and resource-smart tourism for NPA communities
Project summary
CIRCULATOUR addresses common challenges across the NPA, where climate change and overcrowding in other tourist destinations are leading more people to visit cooler regions. While this creates new opportunities, it also puts more pressure on nature, local infrastructure and communities. Many NPA regions already have sustainable, circular practices, but these are often isolated and not shared between regions. The project aims to make tourism more sustainable by testing and sharing practical solutions that help manage visitor numbers, reduce resource use and adapt to changing tourism trends. CIRCULATOUR will deliver three main solutions: - Visitor flow prediction model: Helps destinations predict and manage where and when visitors will travel. - Circular smart destination maps: Help identify sustainable options and use resources more efficiently. - Circular tourism guidelines: Practical advice that other destinations and tourism businesses can use. The project brings regions together to test and improve these solutions in real-life settings across Arctic, island, coastal and rural areas, so successful ideas can be shared and used in other regions.
