The fourth partner meeting of the Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme-funded COPOWER project, along with an awareness-raising seminar, will be held on January 21–22 in Oulu, Finland. Hosted by the University of Oulu, the event will focus on reviewing progress, planning activities and responsibilities for the next six months, and promoting the community-based Virtual Power Plant (VPP) concept to key beneficiaries and end-users.

On the second day, COPOWER partners will organise a hybrid thematic seminar to introduce pilot cases of community-based Virtual Power Plants, providing insights into their implementation and potential impact.

  1. Biogas Plant with a Battery Energy Storage System, integrated into a “Virtual Power Plant”
    • Using energy storage and smart software, to balance energy demand and supply - Fabian Sander, Centria University of Applied Sciences, Finland
  2. Optimized Smart Energy Management for Detached Houses and Outbuildings with Direct Electric Heating 
    • Smart electricity demand response without compromising living comfort - Markku Kananen, University of Oulu, Finland
  3. Toward Resilient Residential Energy
    • Predictive control and battery storage in a three-apartment House - Rúnar Unnþórsson, University of Iceland, Iceland
  4. Former Army Barracks Estate
    • System to integrate multiple DERs creating a microgrid for distributed buildings and balancing relationship with main grid -  Paul Early, Donegal County Council, Ireland
  5. Optimising Space Heating Based on Renewable Energy
    • Using AI forecast and smart control of energy use including energy storage to increase energy efficiency and reduce costs - Bjarti Thomsen, Nólsoy Energy Ltd, Faroe Islands
