SUB Toolkit: an online course for cycling tourism entrepreneurs

There are many different ways of working with inspiration, knowledge development and education. The SUB project has chosen to create a learning platform with videos, texts and quizzes. The content is aimed at people working within the visitor economy, and more specifically within adventure and cycling tourism.

The approach
The work began in spring 2025 with a review of the needs identified through the project. Which knowledge gaps existed, how should they be prioritised, and what did we want our digital toolkit to address? What could we contribute in order to increase the resilience of the cycling product in our regions, lower the threshold for starting a business in cycling tourism, and enhance the knowledge of those already active in the field? The answer was to work through film, text and quizzes, drawing on the expertise and experience of people within our region. Each region within the project’s participating countries was responsible for the areas where they felt they could contribute the most.

A digital toolkit with five themes
The result is a digital toolkit structured around five themes:

  • Building and maintaining sustainable bike trails
  • Developing sustainable tourism services and experiences
  • Setting up and growing a cycling tourism business
  • Hands-on customer experience and safety management
  • Adapting cycling tourism to climate change

Here you will find the digital toolkit, which contains a wealth of material if you wish to explore these topics in greater depth and expand your knowledge. The videos mainly come from Ireland, Finland and Sweden, the texts from Iceland and Sweden, and the quizzes from the Faroe Islands. The material will remain available even after the project has concluded.
