NPA Lead Partner Seminar in Klaksvík

On September 15-16, 2026, the project manager and communication manager from Sustainable SMEs had the opportunity to join the NPA Lead Partner Seminar in Klaksvik, Faroe Islands. The seminar programme offered us a great possibility of networking with other NPA project experts, exchanging learnings, and diving deeper into NPA project management and communication topics.

We got our first experience of Faroese hospitality at the welcome reception at the local rowing club, where we were served local delicacies and beer from the brewery next door. We got to hear stories about competitive rowing and the role it has played in Faroese culture, as well as network with other participants.

The seminar day was also full of interesting programme. We had short introductions of new NPA projects, discussed the impacts and legacy of our projects and how to tell their story, brainstormed on marketing and had the opportunity to ask questions about different project management aspects from our peers as well as NPA representatives. The programme left us with great ideas and inspiration to bring back home to our project partners.

On the evening of the seminar day, we had joint dinner at Haraldssund, a small village just a short bus ride away from Klaksvík. We had the opportunity to visit a local sheep herder's home, where we were again served local delicacies from their farm and told stories about the village and life in the Faroe Islands. The actual dinner took place in the village hall, also prepared from the products of our hosts' farm. This experience really showed us what it means to live in the periphery, and got us thinking why programmes such as the NPA are needed.

In addition to the interesting seminar programme, new ideas and cultural experiences, we also made some new connections with fellow project and communication managers. These connections offer us valuable opportunities for sharing information, getting peer support, and brainstorming on future collaboration possibilities. As someone said in the seminar, nothing can replace face to face human contact.
