Join the BIO-2-PRINT project for an engaging hybrid training session and live demonstration exploring how large-scale 3D construction printing technologies are shaping the future of sustainable manufacturing and construction.

Taking place at the Future Cast Innovation Centre in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, Ireland, this session will combine a practical training seminar with a live demonstration of 3D construction printing technologies and workflows. Online participants will also be able to follow the demonstration live via Microsoft Teams.

The session is designed to introduce participants to the principles, technologies, materials, processes and real-world applications of large-scale additive manufacturing, with a particular focus on sustainability, circular value chains and the use of underutilised natural resources within modern construction approaches.

The first part of the session will include a theoretical introduction covering:

  • the fundamentals and evolution of 3D construction printing, 

  • large-scale printing technologies and equipment, 

  • materials and sustainable manufacturing approaches, 

  • software and preparation workflows, 

  • the printing process from planning to execution, 

  • current applications, case studies and emerging opportunities, 

  • opportunities and challenges connected to the adoption of 3D printing technologies across construction and manufacturing sectors. 

The second part of the session will feature a live demonstration of 3D construction printing technologies, allowing participants to observe the full workflow and gain practical insight into how digital manufacturing technologies operate in real-life settings. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage directly with the trainers during dedicated Q&A discussions.

The session will be delivered by:

Mark McGowan, who has been involved in 3D construction printing since 2013 and is currently working on 3D construction printing research and development within Future Cast.

Glen McStay - is a certified COBOD operator involved in construction innovation and 3D printing projects.
