The fifth report of the project has now been published. The report D.2.1.2, titled “Review and analysis of Life Cycle Assessments in fishing gear waste management methods”, belongs to WP2, which analyses the current disposal systems, end of waste criteria, economic potential, and emerging technologies for EOL fishing gear utilisation. 

D.2.1.2 analyses the environmental impacts of different waste management practices for EOL fishing gear through a literature review of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies on the collection, waste treatment practices, and recycling of EOL fishing gear. The introduction chapter goes through the basics of waste management of EOL fishing gear and LCA, followed by materials and methods, the literature review of LCAs on waste management of EOL fishing gear, analysis of the environmental impacts of EOL fishing gear waste management, and the report ends with recommendations for the establishment of sustainable collection and recycling schemes for fishing gear.
