GLOW2.0 partners from Karelia University of Applied Sciences participated in Kaavi, Juuka and Tuusniemi benchmarking trip in Kainuu region from 24.-26.4.2023 that focused on the Utilization of the dark sky as part of responsible tourism development.

During the event, GLOW2.0 presented case examples of Dark Sky and darkness of nature use in tourism and ways these can be applied among other, via networking for tourism for regions in remote areas and for SMEs with limited time and resources. We also learnt from the site visits ways the region has branded itself and ways they are working for developing and providing tourism offers.

The key lessons learned from the trip for the development of tourism in North Karelia are combining of cultural and nature tourism and significance of cross-regional cooperation. A travel report of the benchmarking trip can be read on Karelia UAS's Pulssi portal (In Finnish).
