NoBiCC Project Meeting & Community Outreach in Nuuk on 14th April

As part of the NOBICC – Northern Buildings in the Changing Climate project, we gathered at the Culture House in Nuuk to explore how climate change is impacting buildings and everyday life in Arctic regions.

Partners from all Nordic countries were represented as we held our 5th project meeting, taking important steps forward in cross-border research collaboration.

Researchers and local stakeholders shared insights on:
• Indoor climate and air quality
• Energy use and building durability
• Impacts of wind, snow, moisture, and rising temperatures
• Everyday challenges for buildings in cold and Arctic climates

The aim was clear: Connect research with real-world needs and local practice.
The outreach session brought together engaged participants, underlining the value of close cooperation between science and society to support resilient, safe, and sustainable buildings in northern communities.

Open Evening Session – Research Meets Community
In the evening, we opened the doors to the local community. The event was announced in the local newspaper, and despite a specialized topic, several community members joined the discussion.
Researchers presented their work in a popular science format, focusing on practical, everyday issues such as moisture, indoor climate, air quality, snow and wind exposure, and building durability in Arctic conditions.
A special highlight was the presentation of Nature House – exploring life in a home built inside a greenhouse, offering a truly different way of living and adapting to climate conditions.
The session clearly demonstrated the importance of making research accessible, relevant, and locally grounded, and of engaging directly with communities when addressing climate challenges in the North.

Thank you to the EU funding programme Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic (NPA) for making this possible, and to all partners and participants for their valuable contributions.
