Tórshavn, Faroe Islands — Search and rescue professionals from across the Arctic and North Atlantic region returned to Tórshavn in June 2025 for the second workshop of the NAMRO project, a collaborative initiative focused on improving preparedness for mass rescue operations in remote and challenging maritime environments.

Building on the momentum of the first workshop held in December 2024, this second gathering brought together 11 participants from key organizations including JRCC Norway, the Icelandic Coast Guard, Munster Technological University, HM Coastguard (UK), and MRCC Tórshavn. Over two days, the group worked intensively to refine the structure of the upcoming NAMRO guidelines and validate a resource mapping tool designed to support international coordination during large-scale emergencies.

Day one focused on finalizing the resource mapping table, ensuring that terminology and categories were aligned with international standards. This tool will help SAR authorities quickly identify and deploy resources across borders when needed. On day two, participants turned their attention to the handbook itself, completing the introduction chapter and beginning work on additional sections. Small group sessions allowed experts to contribute directly to the content, followed by plenary discussions to align on next steps.

As with the first workshop, informal gatherings over meals and a joint activity helped strengthen relationships and foster trust among participants—an essential ingredient for effective cross-border cooperation.
