Three reasons to strengthen Transnational Cooperation in Europe

Based on project examples, Interreg transnational programmes are jointly presenting the three key strengths of this type of cooperation: building solidarity, driving synergies, and delivering change.

As the European Union grapples with fast-changing world dynamics, Interreg transnational projects are quietly going about their business: building the trust, cooperation and resilience needed for Europe to stay strong.

Through a wide range of project examples and stakeholder perspectives, this publication illustrates this potential and the added-value of  transnational cooperation in three key messages: building solidarity beyond borders, achieving synergies for the benefit of all territories, and delivering change to support the green and digital transition of Europe.

It also aims to show how shared governance mechanisms engaging regions and cities - the levels closest to the day-to-day concerns of citizens - have consistently fostered greater cohesion and advanced the Union’s core objectives.

Achieving synergies

The publication highlights Interreg NPA project CIRCNETS which addresses the need to collect and dispose of fishing nets approaching their end-of-life. The transnational approach enables to set up a collection network that meets the demanding circumstances in the Northern Periphery and Arctic regions.
